Kent Mining Museum have been awarded £1.8m following JHA’s support. The museum is to be housed in a new, state-of-the-art visitor centre at Betteshanger Park, on the site of the former Betteshanger Colliery.
It will contain a unique collection of oral history, archives and artefacts, many of which would otherwise be in danger of being lost forever.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded the Museum £1.3million, while the Garfield Weston Foundation awarded the project £500,000. A grant of £25,000 has come from the Foyle Foundation and The Swire Charitable Trust has awarded £18,000.
