We wrote Leicester Cathedral’s Activity Plan in 2018
Leicester Cathedral was transformed by the reinterment of Richard III in 2015, with visitor numbers shooting up from 20,000 to 160,000 per annum and is fast establishing itself as an innovative cultural venue, hosting imaginative exhibitions, installations and performances of music, film and theatre.
The Leicester Cathedral Revealed project will repair the fabric of the Cathedral; the new interpretation will highlight the architecture and features of the building and its stories and a new Heritage Learning Centre will be built on the south side of the Cathedral, housing a new introductory display, a flexible learning and community engagement space and much-needed support areas for the Cathedral.
JHA’s Activity Plan focused on activities around the necessary conservation works and around a programme of four primary heritage themes with a focus on human stories. Stories of the Cathedral’s rich history were drawn out taking it through centuries of major social and political change up to the socially-conscious, multi-cultural place that it is today.
