JHA wrote the Activity Plan for the successful Round 2 NLHF bid

Julia Holberry Associates, with Alis Templeton and Alison Porter, wrote the Activity Plan for Winchester Cathedral’s Kings and Scribes – Birth of a Nation project.  The project has three strands:

  • the restoration and conservation of the building;
  • the creation of a three new display galleries about decoding the architecture of the building, the writing of the Winchester Bible (a key exhibit) and the story the Anglo-Saxon and Medieval kings and queens who used Winchester as their power base and were buried there
  • and a new informal and formal learning programme to bring those stories alive.

The Cathedral had a very strong vision for the displays and activity programme and through extensive stakeholder, community interest group, community and learning consultation we tested the proposition, enhancing and enriching the programme with ideas and suggestions from the public.  We worked with a volunteer steering group, representing their 700 volunteers, to deliver change within a very traditional volunteer corps to deliver a workable Training Plan and Volunteering Plan.  The consultation fed into the interpretation strategy and exhibition designs, the Business Plan and the Conservation Management Plan.

Winchester received their Round 2 funding of £10.4 million in July 2013.
